Web App
TownPin.ie collects and processes your personal data (such as your name, email address, contact details if provided, location data associated with the pin, and any description or images you submit) solely for the purpose of facilitating and transmitting your report or representation about a local issue directly to the relevant local councillor. The councillor may then make a representation on your behalf.
By submitting a report via TownPin.ie, you are actively making a representation to your elected local councillor to assist them in performing their functions as a public representative. This processing is lawful under Article 6(1)(a) GDPR (your consent, given by submitting the report) and is further supported by the specific provisions in Section 40 of the Irish Data Protection Act 2018, which provides a robust legal basis for the making and handling of representations to members of local authorities (elected representatives).
Your personal data will be shared only with the relevant local councillor(s) for the purpose of addressing the specific issue you have reported. The councillor may use the personal data you have provided to contact you directly in connection with your representation, including for follow-up on the reported issue or, where relevant to their functions as an elected representative, in the course of their electoral or representational activities, or to notify of an election. Any such contact by the councillor is governed by Section 40 of the Data Protection Act 2018 and related provisions (including, where applicable, Section 39 for specified electoral communications), and remains limited to purposes connected with their role as a public representative.
We will not use your data for any other purposes, such as marketing, profiling, or sharing with third parties unrelated to your representation, unless required by law.
We retain your personal data only for as long as necessary to facilitate the representation and any follow-up related to that specific issue (typically no longer than 12–24 months after submission, or sooner if the matter is resolved and no further action is needed), after which it is securely deleted unless a longer retention is justified by legal requirements.
You have the right to:
Access your personal data
Rectify inaccurate data
Request erasure (subject to any ongoing legitimate needs related to the representation)
Restrict processing
Lodge a complaint with the Data Protection Commission (www.dataprotection.ie).
